First strip to show a roleplaying session! RPGs are one of my favorite hobbies, and I had to do a strip about them eventually. Most roleplaying games funny stories or jokes are of the "you had to be there" variety; or at least of the "you have to be a gamer" to enjoy them. In this case, I have to admit the story was funnier in my head and on script than the comic turned out to be... and that's not a slight to Taibox's art or Mindy's color (oh yeah, Mindy's coloring us again, and no "guest" before her credit... she's now formally our go-to colorist when Tai can't make it with the chromatic magic).

The story was just funnier for the people playing, or it needs more explanation (I know you shouldn't explain joke, but still...). This was a Marvel Superheroes game; and my friends were playing a group of mutant heroes (an corporate-run incarnation of X-Factor) based in the US. A group of southern militia men, or more accurately, terrorists, took a school full of African Americans and Hispanics hostage, and they were backed by a group of superpowered "rebel heroes".

I happily named them "The Southern Cross", making wordplay between constellation Crux and the cross in the Confederate flag (also part of their costumes), and named each of them after one of the stars in the constellation. I spent all week before gaming night fine-tuning every detail of the session. In the middle of the game, I was promptly informed that you can't actually see Crux from most places North of the Equator. So... astronomy fail.

Music this week is a hit from the year 2000, Eminem and "The Real Slim Shady"!
