From my first school year in Uruguay, and my first month (middle of the school year), since my family moved here in July 1985. I had come here on vacation before, and spoke Spanish fluidly since my parents spoke to me mostly in Spanish. However, I still resorted to English for some things. A short time later, though, I felt too different to the other kids, and in order to adjust, I "turned off" the part of my brain that spoke English. It'd be a few years until I took some classes and re-learned what I'd "deleted".

BTW, Margarita, dear preschool teacher, forgive me for swearing at you.
