This time around, it's something that happened recently... I didn't specify a month in the strip, but it's sometime around November. I work at a company located in a business and technology park located in the outskirts of the city, and there's a special bus line, the DM1, faster and with more comfort, that services certain areas of the city. I don't usually take it, it doesn't go anywhere near my house, but ocassionally I need to get quickly (or at least more directly) to a mall (the one in strip #2), and I take it.

A lot of people from India work in another company in the same park, Tata, and it seems most of them live in areas serviced by the DM1. I know I shouldn't explain a joke, but anyway, I fell asleep while riding the bus with a lot of these Indian guys around me, and when I woke up to their conversations (in a language I could not understand, and I don't know if it was Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Punjab, an English dialect, or a mix of all of those... or any of the dozens of Indian languages)... well, I was a bit confused, to say the least. This was in fact what gave me the idea that I could use stuff that happened in the present for the strip, instead of just relying on stuff that happened years ago.

For this week I selected a song that many (myself included) would consider to be from a Bollywood film, but the film is actually from the Tamil-language film industry, nicknamed Kollywood (and then there's another Indian film industry nicknamed "Tollywood"). The movie's called "Pennin Manathai Thottu", and the song is "Kalluri Vaanil", performed by Prabhu Deva Sundaram and Jaya Sheel. And yes, many might know it as "Benny Lava", after the hilarious homphonic lyrics video. There's even a part of the song that says something that sounds a lot like "jetpack operation"... and the Indian-looking lyrics I used in panel 2 actually say "the jetpack operator". :) I'd also like to say hi to the Indian guy who worked nights at the 7-11 around the block of my hotel in Sydney... my friends and I would go to get a phonecard, or some snacks, and he'd be listening to the awesomest Indian hip-hop; and he knew we needed a copy of the receipt.
