Uruguayan TV was airing "Shaka Zulu" a South African/USA mini series about the life of said warrior and leader. And we couldn't ENOUGH of it, we loved it! For some reason, though, I remembered him fighting white people; but that wasn't historical the case, nor the plot of the show. The actor who played Shaka, Henry Cele (pronounced "Tkele") had been a professional footbal goalkeeper before acting, and coached teams afterwards.

My friends and I were so obsessed with this show, that we couldn't believe it when we heard that the South African embassy was bringing Shaka himself (well, Cele, of course) to our country! I wanted to go so badly... and my parents wouldn't let me. I didn't understand why, but it was because Apartheid was still enforced in South Africa, and Nelson Mandela was still in prison. So, everything by the South African government was best boycotted... now I know, and I thank my parents for that.

Music this week breaks my rule of "track released year the strip takes place" to, of course, bring you the theme song of the show, by Margaret Singana. Wonder at the incredibly racist credit sequence, where all the important white actors come first, even before the actor who plays the FREAKING TITLE CHARACTER OF THE SHOW:
